Hand-built Instruments
Each Ukulele is Unique
These ukuleles are hand built from solid, sustainable tonewoods, selected for their beauty and unique tonal characteristics. Each instrument features a solid wood body, soundboard, neck, fingerboard and binding, bone saddle and nut, mother-of-pearl or abalone inlays, Grover precision tuners, carbon fiber neck reinforcement and Aquila strings.
The earlier models were finished with nitrocellulose instrument lacquer. I later started to use hand-rubbed Danish Oil and beeswax which enhances the beauty of the wood grain and gives the instrument a very silky, tactile finish. It’s also much more environmentally friendly and easy to maintain (Being “food-safe”, the ukuleles can double as an attractive cheese board.) My latest approach is French Polishing, which not only sounds sexy, but creates a beautiful gloss and, because it is so thin, enhances the tone. It’s certainly more time consuming but the results are stunning.
